Utility Works on Oxford Street Announced for 2011
Work is under way to transform transport links to and from Oxford Street with huge benefits to London’s West End. As part of the Bond Street station upgrade and Crossrail link essential utility works will take place on Oxford Street from February 2011 – November 2011.
This will involve the temporary closure of Oxford Street between Duke Street and Vere Street to eastbound traffic and the diversion of bus routes.

The eastern section of Oxford Street reopened to eastbound traffic on Saturday 6 November 2010. There have been utility works since January of this year, which necessitated the diversion of eastbound traffic, including buses, between Newman Street and St Giles Circus.
The bus diversions will end on this date and buses will return to their normal lines of route. All parking restrictions along the main works area on Oxford Street will revert to their original state on the same day.

In preparation for major utilities works on Oxford Street West in 2011, trial holes will be dug in certain locations along Oxford Street between James Street and Marylebone Lane starting on Monday 18 October and finishing late November 2010. Not every area will be worked on at the same time and access to all shops and properties will be maintained throughout.

Utility works on Oxford Street
Before tunnelling and excavation work for the new entrance to Bond Street Station commences, a number of utilities below Oxford Street will need to be strengthened or replaced.
The work, which will take place in 2011, is still being planned. London Underground is working closely with Westminster Council, the utility companies and the Metropolitan Police, to ensure that disruption is minimised and that Oxford Street remains ‘open for business.’
