ORB Action Plan
New West End Company in partnership with Westminster City Council and Transport for London are leading an ambitious £40m joint Action Plan to revitalise London’s West End. The Oxford, Regent, Bond Action Plan lays out a number of proposals to improve the quality of the public realm and in so doing enhancing the overall visitor experience in Europe’s finest shopping district. To be implemented ahead of London 2012, the plan includes:
- New wayfinding and signage to help visitors find their way to and around the West End
- A diagonal crossing for Oxford Circus reducing congestion, improving the ability to cross Oxford Street and Regent Street and increasing the pavement space by 16%
- Traffic improvements aimed at increasing the pavement space by 15% and traffic flows by 9%
- Wider pavements, better lighting, new street furniture and less clutter with a particular focus on east Oxford Street
- Developing ‘oasis’ break out zones off the main streets to provide areas of rest for pedestrians
- New methodology to the location, design and offer of street traders
- Enhancements to the environment surrounding Marble Arch and an improvement to the accessibility between Hyde Park and Oxford Street
- The introduction of visitor information points to provide assistance to visitors when required
