For this year’s Property BID Half Year Review at The Crown Estate, we were delighted to be joined by Don Ghermezian, President of the Triple Five Group, who introduced us to American Dream, the ‘retailtainment’ complex currently being developed in New Jersey, USA.
Ghermezian oversees a portfolio which encompasses the legendary Mall of America and West Edmonton Mall, and next year he will launch the American Dream retail and entertainment complex: a three-million sq ft development billed as the Evolution of Shopping + Entertainment. It features a water park, a theme park and an arena as well as unique ‘prototype’ stores.
It was a fascinating insight into the future of retail and how important it is to link it with entertainment.
In addition to our keynote speaker, this bi-annual breakfast meeting provided us with a crucial opportunity to update our Property BID members on the work New West End Company undertakes across the district. We therefore had a full line-up of speakers to provide updates on our recent activities.
Firstly, to set the scene, James Cooksey, Director of Central London at The Crown Estate opened proceedings by highlighting the importance of collaboration for the West End’s future.
The panel was introduced by David Shaw OBE, Chair of our Property Steering Group, who provided a great overview of our achievements this year.
Our Chief Executive Jace Tyrrell talked about the opportunities that lie ahead for the West End and Mayfair. For New West End Company, key to building a successful trading environment is the transformation of our public spaces and enhancing our leisure and entertainment offer even further.
Dan Johnson, our Director of Placemaking, who provided an update on our key transformation projects currently underway in the district. For more information on this click here.
Next to take the floor was Lucy Prichard, Head of International and Partnership, who updated the room on our recent trips to China and Spain, promoting the West End, and revealed some of our upcoming inward investment projects.
Last, but by no means least, was Kyle Monk, our Head of Insight, who focused on retail insights and the latest trends in the West End. For more information and to sign up to our weekly insight reports click here.
