On 13 June the 2018 edition of the globally renowned London Real Estate Forum (or LREF for short) came to Mayfair to host its annual real estate conference and exhibition.
This year New West End Company was invited to speak on several panels to contribute our insights about retail, placemaking in the West End and world-class hotels.
Our CEO Jace Tyrrell sat on a panel chaired by Ed Cooke, Chief Executive, Revo about the future of retail. His fellow panellists were Hugo Clark, Head of Retail Property Strategy, Deloitte Real Estate, Ben Reed, Head of Brand Management, First Base, Deborah Green, Director – Retail Asset Management, Oxford Properties and one of our board directors, Katherine Russell, Head of Real Estate, Planning, Policy & Commercial, John Lewis Partnership.
The session examined the future of retail across London and there was a lively discussion and Q&A about the challenges and opportunities in this sector, including the operational changes that London retailers are undergoing to gain better access to global and online markets and of course what Brexit means for retail.
At the same time our Director of Placemaking, Dan Johnson, was speaking on a panel across the hall about placeshaping. Chaired by Peter Murray, the Chairman of New London Architecture, the session looked at the key elements that make for successful place shaping in the capital and discussed the potential growth opportunities arising from the London Plan. Also on the panel was Amelia Staveley, Director of Development and Placemaking – London Estate, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, Annelie Kvick Thompson, Principal, Grimshaw, Shifa Mustafa, Executive Director of Place, LB Croydon, Marcus Geddes, Head of Property – London Portfolio, Landsec and Debbie Jackson, Assistant Director of Regneration, GLA.
We also facilitated a panellist for the session on hotels. Our board director, Paul Jackson, General Manager, Claridge’s provided a fascinating insight into the word of luxury hotels alongside George Nicholas, Global Head of Hotels, Savills, Jo Moon, Property Aquisitions Director, Whitbread, Robin Rossman, Managing Director, SBR and Margreet Papamichael, Director – Economics, AECOM.
We also hosted a lunch reception where our CEO Jace Tyrrell updated delegates on the latest transformational projects taking place in the West End and our collaborative vision to make the district the world’s number one choice for investors.
It was a thoroughly insightful two days and we look forward to next year’s event.
