New West End Company is seeking an Area Manager to join our fast-paced team working to design and implement environmental plans across the West End.

The Area Manager will work within the Place Management team to design and implement environmental plans, with the ultimate aim of driving member satisfaction.

The successful candidate will monitor Westminster City Council resolution statistics to maintain the quality of the public realm environment. The role will work closely with contracted waste management and enforcement services to provide a world class resource for the BID area.

The Area Manager will contribute to the strategic planning of the £150m Oxford Street transformation project; a once in a lifetime scheme delivering a multitude of benefits to business, visitors and locals alike.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of environmental strategic plans to support the company’s objectives
  • Interact positively with partner agencies, senior management and other personnel to ensure environmental requirements are fully integrated and effective
  • Bring new ideas and innovation to place management

Key Environmental Tasks:

  • Conduct Environmental Visual Audits with Westminster City Council (WCC) and partner agencies to identify concerns within the public realm
  • Check fix rates according to WCC baseline agreement, escalating outstanding problems to New West End Company (NWEC) senior management
  • Report cleansing issues to the New West End Company and WCC street cleaning teams for resolution
  • Manage a team of WCC City Inspectors to respond to member environmental concerns and queries
  • Plan enhanced waste management services for key BID events e.g. Christmas Lights, Summer Streets
  • Produce monthly reports identifying problematic areas, outline resultant action plans
  • Attend WCC Local Problem Solving Meetings
  • Contract manage Key Performance Indicators within external cleaning and environmental contracts
  • Report anti-social issues such as begging/rough sleeping to outreach teams and Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) when necessary
  • Keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives
  • Work alongside WCC to plan the place management strategy for the £150m Oxford Street transformational works
  • Plan and deliver environmental projects which directly benefit member businesses
  • Task outsourced teams on daily, weekly, monthly basis

Other Key Tasks

  • Stand-in for Associate Director of Place Management when required
  • Present information to management groups and other relevant boards
  • Attend street briefings with MPS, WCC and NWEC Security Team as required, to understand policing priorities

Experience & Skills

  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in a relevant environmental discipline would be beneficial
  • Detailed understanding of environmental legislation
  • Strategic approach to environmental management in line with business objectives
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Efficient multi-tasker working to deadlines whilst keeping a calm and positive attitude
  • High attention to detail; visual, written, organisational, planning, data & budgeting
  • Good level of word processing skills including word, excel and PPT
