Operation West End: Clean, Safe & Healthy Streets this Christmas

We are delighted to announce that, to keep visitors to the district safe and reassure businesses during the festive trading period, we are once again running 'Operation West End' - a four-week uplift in targeted security and cleansing activity. This will be bolstered by additional resource provision from our partners at the Metropolitan Police Service throughout, as well as on high footfall days such as Black Friday, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve. This follows the success of last year's campaign, during which we launched a number of initiatives to support members in delivering the exceptional West End experience visitors expect, during the busiest time of year.

'Operation West End' will return from Monday 27 November, with our Operations team available 24/7 throughout the period, as usual. Below, we have outlined the various initiatives taking place over the next month, as well as how you can get involved.

CLEAN TEAM & SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS

Deep cleanse of all Station gateways -Taking place at Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road and Piccadilly Circus.

Flushing all 82 side streets - Refreshing the look of pavements and removing any light stains.

Chewing gum & graffiti removal and bin washing -There will be an enhanced team across the district on main streets to tackle cleansing issues.

Peak days: enhanced police presence - We have worked with the Metropolitan Police Service to arrange a robust police presence across the district during the busiest trading days, including Black Friday, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve, as well as every Saturday in December.

Dedicated Metropolitan Police Team - Throughout the month of action there will be a dedicated team of Metropolitan Police Officers assigned to the BID footprint funded by New West End Company. They will be working with our Security team to target street crime such as pickpocketing, phone snatches, robbery, and store crime.

Westminster City Council City Inspectors - From 27 November to the end of December we have also arranged to have Westminster City Council City Inspectors dedicated to the BID footprint. They will be conducting joint patrols with our Security team to tackle begging, flower sellers, illegal street trading, fly-tipping and waste issues.

Counter Terrorism Awareness Member Visits - Throughout the month of action we have funded an uplift in New West End Company, FGH and Safer Business Network visits to our member businesses, with a particular focus on Counter Terrorism Awareness.

ADDITIONAL CLEANSING SERVICES

Free Bulky Waste Collections

New West End Company members can book a bulky waste collection service for up to  five items, free of charge, a service that is usually charged to businesses at approximately £200. This is limited to one collection, and is available from Monday 27 November to Friday 22 December, between 8am and 3pm.

We collect fridges, cookers, beds (including mattresses and bed frames), sofas, tables and chairs, mannequins, appliances, and other large electrical items and furniture.

Email Bruna.Silva@newwestend.com to book your free collection slot.

Free Waste Audits for Businesses

All businesses are required to assess their recycling practices in accordance with the new regulations outlined in the Environment Act 2021. By conducting a waste audit, offered by Westminster City Council (WCC), you can easily identify areas for improvement.

The audit includes expert advice on the specific services your business requires. If you are working towards a sustainability target, the audit is also a great way to begin measuring progress in waste management.

Email Bruna.Silva@newwestend.com to find out more and book your audit.

Cleansing App

We are delighted to have launched our own exclusive cleansing app, allowing members to report any issues directly to our team in real-time. Issues logged will be responded to within 30 minutes of reporting, with a live update tracker enabling the user to be kept up to date with progress and alerted when the job is completed.

This new channel will enable members to communicate more effectively with our Cleansing team, ensuring that the district remains up to the high standard workers and visitors expect.
