Climate action and initiatives from our partners across the Capital

We work closely with the Greater London Authority, Westminster City Council and wider partners on addressing the climate emergency. Read below for Action Plans and iniatives in place from our partners across London.

The Greater London Authority

The Business Climate Challenge

The Mayor’s Business Climate Challenge (BCC) is an ambitious new challenge programme that supports businesses to reduce energy consumption in their buildings, cut energy costs and lower their emissions.

Westminster City Council

Westminster has some of the highest carbon emissions and worst air pollution in the UK. Tackling this challenge now is vital avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change, and protect the health, wellbeing and livelihood of everyone in our communities. Westminster City Council's Climate Emergency Action Plan sets out comprehensive actions for reducing carbon emissions across the City, working in partnership with businesses, communities and residents.

Sustainable City Charter

Westminster City Council and the Westminster Property Association launched Westminster’s first Sustainable City Charter in November 2022, which encourages Westminster businesses of any shape or size to act to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and therefore ensure businesses and buildings are resilient to the impact of climate change, now and in the future.

Signing the Charter gives you access to an evolving toolkit of support, advice and local case studies designed to help all kinds of businesses in the city regardless of where you are on your journey to tackling climate change. Joining together means we can all work to tackle the climate emergency.

Waste management and sustainability

Westminster City Council work with Veolia to provide sustainable waste management and collections to businesses. The Council has created a guide to aid businesses in improving their sustainable credentials in this area with case studies across the borough.

Our own clean teams, in partnership with Veolia and Westminster City Council, are fully electric and ensure our streets remain clean, safe and healthy.

Electric Vehicles

Westminster City Council has over 1000 on-street electric vehicle (EV) charge points across the City, ranging from 3kW to 50kW, with more being added to provide greater coverage for the growing number of EV owners in the City.

Transport for London

Transport for London's Environmental Plan sets out how it will support the Mayor's ambition of a carbon neutral London by 2030 while also addressing how to manage the risk to the transport network as the climate and ecological crisis continues.

To support a more sustainable property development sector, Transport for London has also made the TfL Sustainable Development Framework (SDF) available as an open-source tool for delivering best-in-class sustainable developments.
